The sound of my footsteps along with my heavy breath were the only things echoing through the hallway. The more aimlessly I walked, the more insanity creeped into my brain. Behind every single turn I only found the same thing I was running from – endless hallways with sleek white walls. I stopped and steadied my breathing when suddenly I heard a static sound punctuated by a human voice from somewhere in front of me. I didnt think twice and chased it.

I was panting when I finally saw it – a red door. It was there, as if it was waiting. For me. Just for me. The sounds were coming from behind it, I was certain of it. I reached for the black silky handle, my hand shaking. It was cold to the touch causing a shiver run down my spine. I twisted it slowly, the door opening soundlessly. Suddenly, I felt an incredible force pulling me inside, my legs moving on their own accord.

I was drawn into the blackness and all sounds fell silent. The tempreture dropped, giving me chills. But despite that, I felt a bead of sweat well up, and slowly trickle down the nape of my neck. I even missed the whiteness of the walls. At least then I could have been sure that there was nothing creeping up behind my back. But now the heavy darkness pressed against my body was suffocating, impenetrable.

The sound of the door closing behind me flooded my head and immobilized me. I froze in place, I could not move. My limbs went numb. As if the fact that I was now isolated wasn’t enough, the inability of sight played tricks on my mind. It was almost as if I could hear footsteps sounding off behind me. As though I could feel cool breath on my neck. Voices, that eventually became laughter, bouncing off the walls.

A cone of light suddenly appeared in front of me, illuminating a small radio on the ground. The repetitive, static, skipping tune was back. I took a few unsteady breaths, trying to regain control of my body. I tentatively stepped closer. When I finally reached it I could faintly hear voices in the background of the static. ‘‘He seems to be fading, Doctor.‘‘ More static came through. ‘‘I can’t reach him!‘‘

Even though more and more static was interrupting the voices I could not help but wonder why they sounded so familiar. And why their sound made me feel somehow warm on the inside, as if they were some kind of bridge between here and there. It didn’t matter how hard I tried to figure it out, I just couldn’t put my finger on it. Who were they? Who were they trying to save? And then the realization hit me.
