1984 – play review (based on the book written by George Orwell)
On 18th of March we had an oportunity to go see another English theatre performence in Bratislava, this time it was based on the book 1984 by George Orwell, which is possibly the most famous work by this author. The play, as always, consisted of few actors who played multiple roles and did so quite brilliantly.
In my opinion, this was one of the best of these performances I had an opportunity to see and it was done really well. I understood the story and what it had to say, despite the fact that I haven’t read the book, even though I think that it must have been more enjoyable for those who knew what the story was supposed to be about.
The one thing that I didn’t quite enjoy was that some scenes seemed a little romanticised to me but beside that I liked all about it – especially how the audience was made the part of the story. There were definitely some moments that made my hair stand up. What I always love about these performences is the acapella music which is concluded even though it’s not a musical. I like how it fills the changing props moments and the way all the voices sync gives me goosebumps every time.
However, the story had a strong message and I would recomend it to everyone who likes the kind of stories that make them think and question the world and people.
