English is one of the most popular languages in the world, you can even find bits and pieces of it in other languages, usually in slang terms. It is named after Angles, a Germanic tribe which moved to Great Britain and later took upon the name England. English takes inspiration from Norse, Latin, and French. It takes first place for most spoken language in the entire world, and comes in third places as most spoken native language, you really can’t run away from it.
Although British and American English share many similarities, they heavily differ in how they name certain things. For example; Vegetable names, whilst America decided to use quite simple names usually consisting of one or two simple words, such as beetroot and eggplant. England has, instead, decided that aubergine is an actual real word that people should actually unironically say in their day to day lives unironically.
Vegetable names aren´t the only place where America and Britain differ, they also have quite different opinions on how to call various articles of clothing. In this regard, both countries have some valid choices. Although most people know them as sneakers, trainers makes much more sense, they are shoes you train in, ergo they are called trainers. On the other hand, jumper makes no sense, and while sweater also makes barely any sense, at least you can say that it’s called a sweater because you will sweat in it if it’s hot or something like that.
English is a language which helps unite many people around the world thanks to its widespread popularity, it is, however, made quite hard by how many different accents, slang terms, and ‘types’ of it exist. It’s probably best that he who wishes to know this language analyze why they want to do so, if you want to, for example, move to Canada, then of course it would be best to learn Canadian English. If you want to be a master of communication and be able to fluently converse with any who dare call themselves English speakers, then its probably best to just try and memorize all the types of English.
